Winter turns to spring when daylight lengthens, and the seed catalogs begin to arrive in the mail.

As the earth reawakens from a long, frozen slumber, this special time of year can be intoxicating to the gardener.   It is a time to reconnect to the earth via the toil and sweat of another growing season, and the gardener is ready.

Spring brings with it an inspired enthusiasm to beautify and enrich our lives with stunning flowers and plants, and with fresh food.  This celebration of spring, growth and abundance really begins just after the new year, and by April it is in full swing, with beauties beginning to pop up such as a striking white, delicate bell-shaped, three-petal flower; the Galanthus.  A Greek word meaning “milk flower”, this early arriver is mosnowdropre commonly called the “Snowdrop” because it blooms in the snow without destruction.

This harbinger of spring has over 300 varieties, most of which flower before the spring equinox in March. The common snowdrop “Galanthus Nivalis” can be purchased locally and planted in the fall for spring bloom.  Wish you had some growing in your garden?  Contact us to find out how we can get your garden ready for this Spring and many more to come.
